Linda Brodsky, MD, Pediatric ENT Associates, serving WNY for more than 25 Years!

Dr. Brodsky will share her story — one of motherhood, a fulfilling surgical career, her journey to becoming a respected expert in the field of Pediatric Otolaryngology and Quality Assurance in Healthcare…and now, of challenging what she believes to be unfair practices in medicine on behalf of women.

Through the prism of her own experiences, Dr. Brodsky hopes to shed light on the continuing inequities for women in all professional fields and on the negative consequences that often follow for those who stand up and fight.

Housing her ideals and educating the public on the surprisingly archaic values that still plague women everywhere, Linda now hopes to spread her message of positive action and bring an end to inaction.

Linda took a full time faculty position as a pediatric otolaryngologist at a New York State medical school and accomplished her clinical practice at an affiliated children’s hospital.

Linda became the first woman to achieve tenure in a surgical department at the medical school; she was the co-director and later, the director of a large, nationally renowned clinical department of pediatric otolaryngology and communication disorders. She soon achieved the rank of full Professor.

After almost fifteen years at the university, Linda discovered information from which she concluded that a recently-hired male faculty member with lesser qualifications/ responsibilities/seniority was being compensated by the state university at twice her state salary. She also believed that junior attending physicians at the hospital were receiving up to five times the compensation she was receiving as the administrative head of one of the busiest clinical departments. She had also been asked to assume duties that resulted in building an award winning quality program.

After more than two years of trying to resolve gender and pay issues internally, Linda resorted to filing complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). She filed gender discrimination lawsuits against the university and the hospital in federal court.

During the course of her lawsuit, Linda felt forced to go to the EEOC alleging further retaliation by one of these institutions; three weeks later, she was fired. She settled her lawsuit with the University in December, 2007 and resolved her two lawsuits with the hospital “to the satisfaction of all parties” in 2008.

While attempting to address what she believes is physician targeting and sham peer review of physicians, Linda is finding time to redirect her energies:

  • LindaBrodskyMD.com brings forward her story and the experiences and ideals she gained along the way, in effort to help other women physicians facing these problems

  • LindaBrodskyMD.com provides women physicians and scientists with helpful information, as well as a home where they can share their stories.

  • LindaBrodskyMD.com will act as a precursor to a community initiative that will put an end to the inaction surrounding gender equity for women in medicine.
